As we know, name-brand and ‘luxury’ items come at a cost. Many of us have saved up for a pair of shoes or a clothing item we adore. When you pay so much for something, you expect it to be of high quality. This, however, was not the case for a woman in New York who took to social media to share her experience with a pair of Chanel shoes. Despite being a known brand, it was one disappointment after another.
The content creator, Halley Kate (who goes by @halleykate on TikTok), stated that she’s “never shopping at Chanel again” after a less-than-satisfactory experience. Halley was extremely excited to buy a new pair of Chanel shoes. Halley’s happiness quickly turned to sorrow as she found her expensive new flats were ‘disintegrating.’ Even after a short 20 minutes of wear, the sole started to peel back.
When Halley went to return the shows, a Chanel employee told her that they wouldn’t be able to return the shoes. They stated the reasoning behind this is that the shoes may not be in their original condition, even though Halley came with receipts showing she purchased them two days prior. She said in a follow-up video, “That was the worst customer service.”
A quick look at Reddit and various other social media platforms shows that Chanel products have been declining for several years.
One person commented on a post, “The last time I tried buying a wallet, the lady at the flagship in our city seemed too bored to show me what they had.”
Another commented, “Chanel acts like a very old luxury brand… yet does little to ensure the experience is actually a good one.”
In response to Halley’s video, viewers urged her to take action. Shoes falling apart on the first wear are unacceptable. This is especially true when a first glance at their website shows that most of their shoes are well over $1,000. One person suggested, “You should email corporate and the president of the company. Make a huge deal.”
Other commenters are glad they now know to avoid Chanel and save themselves money and stress. One person quipped on her video, “I’m glad I’m broke so I’ll never buy anything from Chanel,” and another said. This will only continue as many large companies lower their customer service standards and produce cheaper products.
It’s also important to note that Chanel has an unsatisfactory and disturbing history, if you’ve ever needed more reason not to shop there. Coco Chanel was known for collaborating with the Nazis during World War II and also attempted to stop Jewish business owners from ‘taking control’ of her perfume company. With a whole messy and disgusting history like this, who needs those shoes, anyway?
