After the success of the original film and its sequel, Channing Tatum is set to return to the Magic Mike franchise for another installment, Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Returning alongside Tatum are the original movie’s director, the iconic Steven Soderbergh and the writer of the other Magic Mike movies, Reid Carolin. Magic Mike XXL director, Gregory Jacobs, will also be returning to serve as a producer on the new movie. Magic Mike’s Last Dance will premiere exclusively on the Warner Bros.’ owned streaming platform, HBO Max.
Channing Tatum confirmed the news of his return for Magic Mike’s Last Dance via Twitter this morning, stating: “Well world, looks like Mike Lane’s tapping back in.” Tatum also shared a picture of his script, which confirmed the returns of Soderbergh and Carolin as well.
Just under ten years ago, Magic Mike hit theaters and became a global sensation. Under the direction of Steven Soderbergh and with Channing Tatum at his best, the movie performed well, receiving better than average reviews and earning $167 million on a $7 million budget. Almost immediately, Warner Bros. approved the sequel, Magic Mike XXL, which was a solid follow-up despite not performing as well as the original.
The success of the first two Magic Mike films even inspired a real Magic Mike stage show to be produced. Two years after Magic Mike XXL, Magic Mike Live launched in Las Vegas and rapidly expanded, popping up around the world in London, Berlin, and Australia. There is even a North American tour planned for the show, which is set to start in April of 2022.
However, for those who simply cannot wait for more Magic Mike content, a reality competition series called Finding Magic Mike will premiere on HBO Max on December 16. The series follows a group of men who have “lost their magic” and will dance their way to reclaiming it and win a spot on the Magic Mike Live stage in Las Vegas.
