A creepy scene unfolded at a Spirit Halloween store in Texas after a pet monkey escaped from its owner, still wearing its diaper, and decided to have the time of its life in the store’s ceiling. A video posted on X showed the monkey in its white diaper, swinging its tail and moving from rail to rail in the ceiling. It kept climbing across the rafters, while a hand could be seen nudging it to come down at one point.
Just as it seemed ready to get down, the monkey hesitated and swung away again. According to KYMA, a store worker, Jimmy Harris, said the pet monkey got spooked by the animatronics and ran off from a customer who had brought it inside. “It was entertaining. I was like, ‘Huh.’ A lot of people just stood and watched it for like the whole time…and we had kids trying to catch it,” Harris said
The Plano Police Department (PPD) was called to the scene. When an officer arrived, “He observed the monkey swinging from the rafters wearing a diaper… Eventually, a cookie was offered to the monkey by the owner and was able to gain control of it.” The store worker detailed. A mother, Arlene Pinkston, who was also shopping at the store, confirmed that her daughter called her attention to the monkey after she looked up and saw it.
People online couldn’t stop reacting to the hilarious moment. “Are we not asking the question of why a monkey in a diaper was even in a Spirit Halloween store in Texas??” someone asked. “Lil’ dude just living his best life… and he even got a Cookie out of the deal!
I want to hug him so bad right now; there’s got to be so much wacky positivity from a Monkey in a Spirit Store💘,” another user gushed.
Comparing the monkey’s wild adventure to their own life, one commenter wrote, “Monkey is having a big day, but I’m going to have to see some ID to make sure he didn’t escape from the Herpes Truck Accident.” Someone else pointed out, “Imagine clocking in at Spirit Halloween and your shift turns into a monkey rescue mission😭🔥.”
Another person admired, “Aww, leave him alone, he’s having the time of his life and not hurting anyone,” while this user added, “That monkey is the best and most unexpected Halloween decoration.” Taking a playful jab at ICE, a user joked, “Straight from them banana republics down south. It’s hiding from ICE.”
However, the PPD confirmed that the monkey wasn’t injured and wasn’t seen as a threat.
