Chernobylite 2 Is ‘Basically Complete,’ but the Devs Need Your Help to Fund the One Thing It’s Missing

Eye-to-eye in the Exclusion Zone

Stare into the irradiated wasteland long enough and it all starts to look the same. Wipe the grime from your gasmask, however, and look again. There’s still plenty of innovation to be had in the exclusion zone, as one Kickstarter campaign reveals. Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone is an ambitious open-world RPG, but it’s still missing one big feature: 1st-person. While it’s already possible to explore in first-person mode, the camera swaps when a fight starts. To include a 1st-person combat option, the devs need funding. Thankfully, it’s been less than a day, and The Farm 51 is already more than halfway toward its goal.

The Farm 51 has already raised $57,179+ of its $97,873 goal for Chernobylite 2. Considering it’s been less than a day and there’s almost a month to go until its February 13 Kickstarter deadline, getting 1st-person POV seems all but guaranteed. Other than the new camera feature, the game is “basically complete,” according to the developer’s Kickstarter statement. As a fan of Chernobylite and the exclusion zone setting in general, I’m hyped. Wasteland 3, Metro Exodus, and Stalker 2 scratch a similar itch, but none pair RPG mechanics with open-world action the way that Exclusion Zone aims to.

The Farm 51’s game shares Heart of Chornobyl‘s mutants, radiation, and bleak atmosphere, but Chernobylite 2 is no FPS. It’s a deep RPG, complete with character classes, stat sheets, factions to befriend, and a base to upgrade. Combat, when it does erupt, is a mix of gunfire, sword swings, and the green magic antics of Chernomancy, all played in third-person. If anything, its combat looks more like Remnant 2. Assuming Chernobylite 2‘s Kickstarter meets its goal, players will be able to smoothly swap between 1st and 3rd-person both inside and outside of combat. Who doesn’t love enjoying their shiny new armor while dying of radiation poisoning? Some things in the zone never change.
