In a world full of villains, a viral video showing its heroes is worth celebrating. When ICE agents threatened to raid an Illinois Home Depot, Cicero locals banded together to put a stop to it. In contrast to the police brutality so often used by ICE agents, these locals used nothing more than ingenuity and willpower. There were thankfully no injuries, but ICE agents did walk away with bruised egos.
As the video, posted to Reddit by @INeedAPharmacist, opens, you can see ICE agents pull into the Home Depot parking lot. The person who’s filming points them out before the car comes to a stop in front of a group of other vehicles. The cars are honking the entire time, forming a tight circle around the ICE agents as they step out of their SUVs.
As Cicero locals effectively block the ICE agents from leaving, everyone steps out of their cars. Some are filming with their phones, while others are shouting at the agents to leave. Those who remained in their cars continued to honk, adding a layer of disorientation to the mix. As locals surround the outnumbered agents, the ICE agents struggle — and fail — to maintain order in the Home Depot parking lot. The honking reaches a deafening crescendo as the locals chant, “Go! Go! Go!”, proving that Illinois protects its own.
The comments on the viral video show overwhelming support for the Cicero shoppers. “Legislators are doing nothing, so citizens have to,” one Reddit user commented. “AND DON’T STOP. KEEP IT GOING ON! RECORD BE LOUD PROTEST,” another person replied. Other chimed in, echoing the support, with one user saying, “We, the ppl, are the government!” One more threw their support behind it, saying, “Look at these American Patriots fighting back against a tyrannical government.”
As the comment thread went on, others praised Cicero for its bravery. “Proud of Illinois and Cicero citizens,” one user said. Another quoted New York City’s new mayor, saying, “Like Zohran Mamdani said, ‘turn the VOLUME UP!!!’ God bless y’all and stay safe, Chicago. Don’t stoop to their level. Keep doing what you’re doing. Sounding needed alarms.” One Reddit user summed it up the best, saying, “When they say people are the real power, they mean it.” As America slowly fights back, these Cicero locals are proof that not all heroes wear capes… some just shop at Home Depot.
