It seems Chicago, Illinois, residents can’t even take out the trash without the fear of being chased down by ICE agents. A shocking video posted on Reddit showed the disturbing moment as two residents stood by a garbage can, emptying their trash, when a vehicle pulled up and agents climbed off, obviously determined to catch them. As soon as the residents saw them, they started to flee the scene, prompting the agents to take off in pursuit.
In their haste to catch the residents, one of the agents in the passenger seat of the vehicle abruptly flung the door open, smacking a fellow agent running that direction right in the face. Soon, about four agents joined the chase, and another vehicle followed the initial one in pursuit of their targets. The clip quickly spread across the internet, rousing a flurry of reactions from netizens, which included outrage and disbelief. “What’s the reasonable suspicion here?” a user wondered. “Anyone who still supports this gleefully revels in the cruel spectacle of it all. It’s ghoulish and unnerving,” another fumed.
Addressing the agents’ demeanour, a user wrote, “They’re just so excited to trample on people’s rights and humanity, they just can’t help their enthusiasm!” While another compared the scene to something out of the 1800s, “Straight up slave catcher [expletive]. This is America.” Others focused on more pressing issues, writing, “Ok, so they’re just targeting non-White people. There’s no reason to approach people throwing away trash. The same with them at airports, there are people from all over the world there, leave them tf alone.”
Another stated bluntly, “That really looks like an attempted kidnapping.” One user lamented, “Watching them terrorize people is heinous. I hate this. How do we make it stop? Why can’t anything be done?” Echoing the same sentiment, another fumed, “So they’re just driving around looking for brown people, huh. What the actual [expletive] is happening?”
A few found dark humor in the chaos. “LOL at that one dumbass getting hit with the door,” one wrote. Biting with sarcasm, one noted, “These guys can’t even open a door tactically lol.” A third chimed in, “When the front passenger door opened… that made my day.”
As reported by NerdStash, this was not the only frivolous encounter involving ICE agents. Another Chicago resident was detained for simply recording unmarked ICE agents. According to the report, a vehicle pulled up towards the man who was already filming, and the agents alighted and approached him.
They identified themselves as United States Border Patrol and asked if he was a citizen before chasing him down and snatching the phone from him while the camera was still rolling.
