We all know that homeless people are everywhere around the country. In most states, they mind their own business and never mess with others. However, it tends to be a one-sided situation, as some individuals seek internet clout at others’ expense. One example of this situation happened in Chicago, Illinois, where a TikToker filmed himself while handing out alcohol to homeless people, with a caption inside the video saying, “Keeping the homeless in the street.” So far, this video has received mixed reactions, with some saying the person is doing a good thing and others claiming it is bad.
The original video comes from TikToker Povwolfy, who has a lot more clips like this where he shares alcohol and cigarettes with the homeless. In this video, we can only observe him approaching the homeless community with what seems to be bottles of liquor. Those in the video grab the bottles quickly, with a few of them even thanking the TikToker.
In truth, this action doesn’t seem too bad. In the end, someone is giving something to those in need. However, it is what this person is giving them that has raised some eyebrows and also some online debate.
For starters, we have one side saying that the best thing some people can give to homeless individuals is alcohol and other substances to numb their senses, given how they are facing a difficult situation, and sometimes it is better to forget.
Yet, other Redditors think that the best someone can do for homeless people is give them food or snacks, as those are much healthier for them.
So far, people can’t seem to reach an agreement on the TikToker’s actions, with some claiming they were good and others saying they were bad.
“It’s bad. Wish he offered them water or snacks or toiletries,” said one user.
“I’d say it’s not going to help in the long run, but also isn’t going to hurt,” commented another Redditor.
Besides that debate, a few users believe that the caption of “Keeping the homeless in the streets” sounds a tad aggressive. While handing out things is never bad, the way the TikToker is showing it makes it look as if he was just aiming to get views quickly at the expense of the homeless.
