The idea of dealing with the east coast heat wave without an air conditioner sounds horrifying. What would be worse is being stick on an airplane without AC! Well, that’s exactly what happened to a woman in Chicago. During her flight, the air conditioning system gave out, leaving her and the other passengers dealing with intense heat. I wasn’t even there I can only imagine the plane probably felt like a broiler.
The video was initially posted by Bridget (@brigchicago) who shared her absolutely “hot” story on TikTok. She and many others were absolutely shocked when they discovered the air conditioning was not working in-flight. It would take some time to restore it to normal working order. Bridget’s video was appropriately captioned, “POV it’s 130 degrees on the plane & you’re being told to meditate.”
On the loudspeaker, you can hear an attendant telling everybody on the plane they’re working quickly to fix the AC. She then goes on to say they should remain calm and even ‘meditate’ until they had it working again. Bridget and her friend look at each other and shockingly state, “Meditate?!” in disbelief while laughing. As the camera pans around the plane, you can see everybody is sweating, making fans out of paper, and clutching water as they worry about the immense heat.
The passengers are giving off an aura of shock and concern, as I would definitely be feeling as well in that same situation. Commenters were equally as baffled by the scenario, even saying that it could be dangerous for some. One person commented, “I hate heat insensitivity, I would be having a medical emergency” while others agreed with this sentiment.
Another person asked, “I’m sorry I must have blacked out. Did she say try to meditate?” However, another commenter saw it differently. She stated, “As a former flight attendant… They don’t train us on situations like this. She’s doing her best in an awful situation with no other options. Give her a breaaakkkk.”
It is true that events like these, though an emergency, cannot be helped. And obviously, at a time like this, cutting employees some slack is especially crucial as they don’t want to be in that position, either. I do hope the passengers had a comfortable rest of their trip and the situation was quickly mended.
