Chris Claremont is taking Wolverine, and the X-Men, back to the Australian Outback. Marvel announced that the fan-favorite writer is helming a new Wolverine miniseries alongside artist Edgar Salazar. The miniseries, Wolverine: Deep Cut, takes place in the time when the X-Men were stationed in the Australian Outback. This was during Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men run. However, the story will stand on its own. You do not need to be familiar with that part of the X-lore. This is the second Wolverine collaboration for Claremont and Salazar. They previously worked together on the Wolverine: Madripoor Knights series.
Wolverine: Deep Cut
In a press release for the upcoming series, Marvel editor Mark Basso teased what readers can expect. He shared that one of the amazing things about Chris Claremont’s work is how multi-layered and rich his X-Men stories are. Of course, in Uncanny X-Men #246 this meant moving Wolverine to the side in order to weave a tale with the many characters and plotlines going on in that series. Now, we see what the hot-headed mutant was up to in that interim time between Uncanny X-Men #246 and #251.
The series is going to show that there wasn’t enough time or space to fully show what Logan was up to in those issues. However, the story told in Wolverine: Deep Cut will be free-standing. You will not need to re-read the Uncanny X-Men issues to follow this untold story. It is a full adventure all on its own, as only Chris Claremont can do.
Chris Claremont Is Back In Action
Wolverine: Deep Cut reunites Chris Claremont with artist Edgar Salazar. The duo played around with Wolverine and Natasha Romanoff in this year’s Madripoor Knights series. There, the duo took Natasha and Logan to the criminal city of Madripoor where truths were revealed. That series featured cover art from Phillip Tan, who will return to provide covers for Deep Cut. Claremont is a big name in comics, especially regarding the X-Men. So, fans will surely enjoy this untold story he has cooked up in the Australian Outback with everyone’s favorite clawed mutant.
Wolverine: Deep Cut #1 is scheduled to release on 07/03.
