Chris Hemsworth and Billie Eilish‘s 2024 Oscars interaction will forever haunt the Australian actor. During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hemsworth recalled meeting the “Bad Guy” singer with his wife, Elsa Pataky, at last year’s Academy Awards. The couple hesitated to ask Eilish for a selfie but eventually built up the courage to approach her. While they were able to score some cool points from their children, Hemsworth now regrets their photo. Why? Well, it all has to do with Hemsworth’s pride.
Chris Hemsworth and Billie Eilish May Never Be Friends, According to the Actor
Chris Hemsworth said he immediately fanboyed when he discovered Billie Eilish was at the 2024 Oscars. Since he’s an actor and she’s a singer, they don’t normally see each other at the same events. So, when Hemsworth noticed Eilish, he thought it would be a good idea to take the opportunity and ask her for a photo. However, he couldn’t help but get nervous. “I remember thinking, ‘Ah, don’t do it, don’t do it,'” he told host Stephen Colbert.
In the end, his wife convinced him to do it because their children are also fans of Eilish. “I was like, ‘No, my kids are going to love this,'” Hemsworth said. After getting his selfie with the pop star, he made an interesting realization. Hemsworth is usually asked for photos, but that night, he experienced being on the opposite end. You’d think he would have found it funny. However, it mortified him. Hemsworth thinks Eilish will now forever see him as a fan rather than a colleague. “We will never be friends, never be best friends,” he said.
Pataky posted the selfie on Instagram. In the photo, the couple could be seen smiling from ear to ear while Eilish stood between them.
Reflecting On the 2024 Oscars
The 2024 Oscars was a big night for Eilish, so it’s no wonder Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky wanted to get a selfie with her. The pop star and her famous brother, Finnneas, were up for Best Original Song for the second time. In 2022, they took home the award due to the success of “No Time to Die” from the James Bond film of the same name. Last year, they won again for their work on “What Was I Made For?” from the Barbie movie soundtrack. The duo even performed the track at the Oscars.
Eilish and Finneas received a standing ovation following their performance. Barbie stars Margot Robbie, Kate McKinnon, and America Ferrera were just some of the celebrities who were captured in the audience applauding the pair. The crowd’s reaction was so loud that it surprised Eilish and Finneas. After taking a moment to reel it all in, the brother and sister duo ended the night with a hug.
It seems Chris Hemsworth and Billie Eilish will always remember the 2024 Oscars for two very different reasons.
