Chris Redd’s emotional Instagram confession reopened old questions about his personal life, his exit from Saturday Night Live, and how his relationship with Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife began. Behind the tears, insiders now say the mood at SNL was far less sentimental when Redd finally walked away from the show.
Chris Redd Opens Up About Pills and a Complicated Romance
In a tearful video, Chris Redd revealed that his time on Saturday Night Live was marked by personal struggles he kept largely hidden. While brushing off his pill use as “nothing too crazy for my Black a**,” he admitted the situation escalated as he confessed to selling some to his castmates. He also disclosed experiencing panic attacks while others looked on.
According to Redd, Christina Evangeline, Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife, was the only person who intervened, confronting him about his “[expletive]” and helping him regain control. He stressed that their eventual relationship wasn’t planned, describing it as a “very unique, nuanced” situation that unfolded naturally during a difficult period in his life.
Redd acknowledged that the relationship made him appear disloyal, but said he and Thompson discussed it and agreed to keep things private for a year. By the time the relationship became public in 2022, Redd had already exited “SNL,” and Thompson filed for divorce the same year.
Inside the Mood Surrounding His SNL Departure
Despite Redd’s emotional reflection, sources close to the show paint a different picture of his exit. According to TMZ, one insider who worked with him said bluntly that “they were not sad to see Chris go.” Another source pushed back on Redd’s claims about pills, stating:
“nobody in the cast has ever heard of this allegation that he supplied cast members with pills. Back in the day, things were pretty crazy with some of the players … but the current cast is very clean.”
Redd’s raw account now clashes with a detached insider perspective, underscoring how messy and memorable life backstage can be.
