When it comes to the Academy Awards, it is always put into question who will host the next ceremony. An offer for Chris Rock to return to his duties as the host of next year’s Oscars was made, but the comedian has declined. As reported by Arizona Republic, he made a statement at his show at Arizona Financial Theatre in downtown Phoenix; he made a joke about the idea of coming back.
To keep up with the show, Chris Rock made jokes about being a host for the Oscars again. He compared it to returning to the scene of a murder or asking Nicole Brown Simpson “to go back to the restaurant.” He also revealed he was offered a Super Bowl commercial with no specific company mentioned that offered it to him, but he also declined that job.
Chris Rock will not host next year’s Oscars
All of this got started at this year’s Oscars when Chris Rock was slapped by Will Smith over jokes about his wife. The King Richard actor won an award but then was banned for a decade due to him slapping the Oscars host. It ignited debates and memes across the internet. Someone in the crowd then encouraged the comedian to talk about it.
“He’s bigger than me,” he said. “The state of Nevada would not sanction a fight between me and Will Smith.”
Initially, Deadline reported that Chris Rock was approached about the Oscars and to host this September’s Emmys. While he was offered, Dwayne Johnson was also asked to host the Emmys. SNL star Kenan Thompson will take on the hosting duties.
When it comes to the slap at the Oscars, Chris Rock has continuously shrugged it off. In June, he brought it up at his Madison Square Garden show by saying he “shook that sh– off and went to work the next day.”
