There is no denying that the government is using many resources to support all anti-immigration programs. Although this has also meant closing other programs, sometimes the use of resources is excessive. This, for example, caused Los Angeles, California, citizens to rage when they saw a local police department squadron close streets to escort ICE agents. All so that the agents could safely reach their cars and return home safe after their long workday.
Redditor CantStopPoppin shared a video on r/EyesOnIce showing several cops deploying to close off an entire road, even though there don’t seem to be many people around at first. While someone can be heard in the video, it is unclear whether it is OP, saying “Captain, what is this for? This is so stupid, Captain. Captain, this is dumb. You are creating problems that are unnecessary. What point does this make? This is nonsense. None of this makes sense. None of this. This is all to escort DHS workers.” All this while the DHS workers were slowly walking close to one of the buildings in the area, no longer wearing their uniforms and carrying their bags on their shoulders.
More people in California gathered as ICE agents passed by in the farthest part, while the Los Angeles Police Department formed a dividing wall to escort them. Again, the voice questions the police captain for using too many resources just to take DHS employees to their cars. The same voice also criticized the federal agents for not having their own squads to escort their own agents if they were so worried for their safety. In addition, the voice added that the federal agents clearly could not handle “that,” referring to the few unarmed citizens present.
The truth is that more and more people are showing that they disagree with the actions of DHS, ICE, and the police. For example, the user SpeakingTruth601 shared in the comments, “These evil mfs can not possibly be “good” when they get home. Their poor wives have to lay their head next to someone whoโs becoming more evil by the day”. There have already been more cases where citizens went to the hotels where agents rest to prevent them from sleeping, locked them in buildings, and so on. As a result, more and more people now consider these same agents to be “cowards,” and the fact that they now need escorts can only worsen their public image even more.
