Civilization VI is rumored to be the next free title on the Epic Games Store. If that wasn’t enough to get you hyped, there’s more. A new rumored leak divulged the store’s giveaway lineup for the next month and it’s a steady diet of big-name games.
These rumors absolutely need to be filed in the “take with a massive grain of salt” section of your brain but there are clues that lend credence to the “leak.” Rumors that Grand Theft Auto V was coming May 14 proved to be true. For the second straight week, Epic won’t tell the gaming public what’s on deck for next week. As a general rule, when the company does this, it’s a big game.
On the other hand, there’s plenty of reason to be skeptical. The new Civilization VI rumor comes by way of Reddit user, Detectiveconan77. When pressed on how he came across this information, the user first joked about its origins. Then hemmed and hawed around the issue.
There’s also the very real question of what “sale” the “leaked” photo showing Civ VI as the next is referenced. EGS does have a sale running at the moment but its due to run out next week.
If the rumor is true, there’s a nice slate of games following Civilization VI. On May 28, Epic users get Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for free. Ark: Survival Evolved kicks off June on EGS.
New Civilization VI content pack could be killer
Perhaps the biggest strike against “Civ VI is the next freebie,” is the game’s official website. Civilization VI is due to get a new content pack on May 21, the same date it’s purportedly going free on the Epic Games Store.
That alone isn’t a rumor killer as companies offer older content at big discounts all the time when launching new stuff. What does stand out is that the site mentions the content is coming to the PS4, Xbox One, Switch and Steam specifically. It’s possible 2K is just keeping the reveal under its hat. That tidbit makes me more than a little dubious.
