With only hours left until the military parade in Washington on Donald Trump’s birthday, soldiers are getting ready to put on a show. However, if anything, citizens seem to be angered by the preparations.
Footage capturing troops of soldiers in a march practice in the streets of Washington surfaced on Reddit. The video opened up with a band marching in front. Following closely was a battalion of soldiers who marched, their hands swinging. However, upon a closer look at the video, it appeared that the soldiers were not entirely in sync.
In no time, the video captured social media users’ attention, with many heavily criticizing the parade. One Redditor condemned, “Crap marching. Even Stripes did it better!” A second critic chimed in, “Nowhere near as synchronized as the North Koreans.”
An angered netizen claimed taxes were poured into the wrong thing. “I’m livid that my tax dollars are paying for this BS,” the netizen lamented. A fourth critic seemed to compare the administration with other authoritarian regimes. “Where are the red flags to go with the Soviet or North Korean-style military march?” questioned the critic.
In addition to the march past, some military weapons were spotted around Washington, as they would also be on display during the parade. A carousel post on Reddit showed different pictures of weapons stationed at different spots. In one frame, a war tank was seen at the White House. A second slide showed a military helicopter, while another revealed fencing and barriers in front of the Washington Monument.
Again, netizens pointed out that the parade was a waste of money. This observer remarked, “This is what we get instead of cancer research.” A second person added, “We could’ve had Medicare coverage for home healthcare.”
While the parade is in the works, citizens in Parker, Colorado, who are fed up with the administration, have planned an anti-Trump rally on the same day. However, the movement, tagged “No Kings,” was opposed by the town.
As TheNerdStash earlier covered, the town’s officials claimed that the demonstration clashed with the annual Parker Days festival, as such, the rally had to be canceled. However, the organizers of the protest are not backing down, saying that the decision violated their First Amendment Rights.
Even when town officials offered an alternative date for the protest, the organizers remained steadfast in their decision to hold it on June 14. To avoid conflict with the Parker Day event, the protesters decided to stay off Main Street.
Now it remains to see whether the parade will be a success or not
