One of the most important recommendations when it comes to driving is always to secure your car and be alert to your actions and the environment. Even so, unfortunately, no one is immune to having a car accident. Something like this happened to a person from Oregon, who, when trying to leave their driveway, accelerated so much that they ended up crashing into the front of their neighbors’ house. The crash caused significant damage, affecting not only the neighbors but also the driver’s car.
Redditor mateotrujillowheeler posted on r/Wellthatsucks how the front of their house ended up destroyed. The reason for this issue is that in this Oregon neighborhood, OP’s neighbor drove out at full speed and crashed into their home. In the process, the driver destroyed one of the pillars of the wall dividing the main entrance from the OP’s garage. Yet, the driver was not left unscathed. The driver’s car sustained significant damage, losing one of its headlights and one of its sides. Without a doubt, that car will not be cheap to repair, just based on the damage.
“What is the backstory? Did the person mistake the gas pedal for the brake? What did they say?” asked Behavior08. To this, OP answered: “He said, ‘I was pulling out of my driveway when the accelerator got stuck. ‘Before I knew it, I slammed into your house.” Not only did OP give all users more context, but they also added several links to videos from different angles of the same incident in the comment.
“Oh man, their insurance company is going to be PISSED. Hitting a house is probably way worse than a car. I can’t imagine how much it’s going to cost to fix that kind of structural damage,” said tehlurkingnoob.
Fortunately, in the comments, OP added that luckily no one was injured in the accident. Luckily, even the neighbor didn’t suffer any significant consequences, as he was only a little shaken up. Interestingly, several users asked if the driver was an older man, as HRman88 did: “This guy a retiree?”, which turned out to be true. For this reason, many users believed that the accelerator wasn’t the issue. However, older adults sometimesย have difficulty driving and are more likely to be involved in accidents like this. Yet, there’s more good news from OP: the neighbor’s insurance will cover the damages.
