Code Geass turned ten years old in October, but it wasn’t until this last weekend that Sunrise celebrated the cult favorite mecha series with an anniversary event. Two major revelations were made during the event regarding the series’s future.

First, a three-part anime film series will be produced, compiling the entire first and second seasons of the show, plus adding new footage. The original voice actors, who were present in person at the event, will be redoing their lines for the project. Those who haven’t seen Code Geass might want to get a hold of these movies when they become available (the first one’s in 2017), especially considering the second major upcoming project.

An entirely new Code Geass project is in the works. Subtitled “Lelouch of the Resurrection,” this new plot begins years after the conclusion of the second season and will continue the universe’s canon. It’s currently unknown whether Lelouch of the Resurrection will be a film or a whole new anime season. Attendees at the event were treated to a teaser of this new project. Unfortunately, it seems none of them recorded it and put it on the Internet for the rest of us to see.

What we do have is this package art for the project. See anyone familiar? Missing? Hmm.

There’s still hope, however. Bandai is set to stream the goings-on of the event in Japan on December 23 (Merry Christmas to them), with a DVD and Blu-Ray release to follow in April 2017. Why so late? Possibly to coincide with the debut of the first compilation move. The event footage itself will contain the teaser video that the Code Geass anniversary attendees were treated to. Other goodies include a live stage performance, a short film, and a picture drama.
