Out of all recent game announcements, the one for Code Vein 2 took many of us by surprise. The first title introduced many features and engaging combat mechanics that made it feel like a faster soulslike in many ways. However, it seems the sequel is doubling down on many things that worked with the first entry, while also improving other features to make it an even grander adventure. A clear example of this is the latest story trailer for Code Vein 2 that shows a narrative involving time-travel, a lot of unique companions, and the return of the hot springs that many of us loved from the first game.
Code Vein 2 Will Feature a Time-Altering Plot
In case you missed it, Bandai Namco Entertainment published the story trailer for Code Vein 2. While some of the things still seem a bit cryptic, and rightly so, as we’ll likely discover everything once we dive into the sequel, we already have a general idea of where this narrative will take us.
In the sequel, humans and Revenants coexist, but a calamity turns the latter into creatures called Horrors. As a Revenant hunter, you must travel to the past to stop the calamity and meet several heroes who will help you during your journey.
What makes the plot sound extremely interesting is the fact that it says we might be able to affect the fate of some characters we meet in the past. It is unclear if this will have gameplay implications, such as different paths or narrative choices, but it sounds pretty exciting.
We also know that partners will play a key role during the game, providing our character with different options depending on whether we summon them or assimilate them, and this latest trailer just gave us a look at some of the cast members who’ll likely join us as we travel back in time.
Furthermore, those keen-eyed fans of the first title might’ve spotted something at the end of the story trailer, and that is the hot springs, which are coming to Code Vein 2. This feature in the first game allowed players to relax with other characters inside the hot springs, and also access past cutscenes. It’s still unknown how this system will work in the sequel, but we’re already loving how the hot springs look with a more modern touch that lines up with the new game’s tone.
