A mechanic in Colorado came across a very Disney-like situation while checking on a customer’s tire. He pulled on what was described as a seemingly endless Rapunzel-long string of pure tire. He and his fellow mechanics had no other choice but to jump rope with it.
Austin Shorter, whose TikTok username is elllogovnaeatstea, shared the odd tire moment online. He regularly posts car-related content on his Instagram. The clip soon went viral on both platforms, garnering 1.4 million views, 281,000 likes, and more than 2,500 comments on TikTok alone.
The Colorado man began recording a tire that had sustained serious damage. As a result, a string was hanging, with multiple grooves right next to it. Austin, fully aware of the magnitude of the damage, began following the tire string.
Step by step, he began following its length. Following a barrage of “evers,” the man eventually reached the other end of the tire string. It was definitely a sight to be seen, as the string stretched for tens of feet, a feat that not only was bizarre, but also raised many questions regarding how exactly that tire got into such a bad state.
One-Month Tires Become Stringy
In a follow-up, Austin shed some light on the mystery tire string. He said that the tire was a Pirelli P Zero, which is an ultra-high-performance summer tire tailored for high-end cars and SUVs. The vehicle, a Dodge Challenger, had been sold with four of those, brand-new.
The tires lasted for about a month before the car was towed back to the dealership. Their shredded nature appeared to have done the trick, but the car also had another major issue. The Colorado man said that it had a fuel tank puncture.
Whatever caused the shredding is still a mystery, but Austin explained in the comments that the delamination was caused by extreme heat. Still, that wouldn’t stop each of the mechanics from having some fun with the tire string. A couple of them were seen jumping rope with it, all consumed by the ridiculous nature of the moment.
Social Media Reactions
The video sparked many responses online, mostly from viewers who found it hilarious. One said, “Rapunzel, let down your tread.” Another one commented, “Tire by the foot.”
The laughs just wouldn’t stop. One viewer wrote, “Repurpose it and crochet a sweater.” Another one added, “You just gotta wind the tape back up and hit play.”
Hopefully, the new set of tires will not become stringy any time soon.
