Most drivers like to believe they are reasonable behind the wheel, and for the most part, that is true. Daily commutes and routine errands usually pass without incident. Still, anyone who spends enough time on the road knows that road rage is never far away. From aggressive tailgating to sudden brake checks, road rage can turn an ordinary drive into a stressful or even dangerous situation in seconds. While many road rage encounters end with nothing more than frustration, some escalate far beyond that. That was the case for Kyle Gunn, who goes by kylegunnmedia online, after he found himself caught in a road rage incident in Colorado. The encounter happened while he and a coworker were heading north on Union Boulevard, approaching the Woodmen Road stoplights in Colorado Springs. Traffic at the time was moving normally, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

According to Gunn, his coworker was driving a used 2018 Sierra 1500 and signaled before merging into the left lane. The move appeared to upset the driver of a nearby Subaru, who began honking aggressively, apparently believing he had been cut off. It was a small moment that quickly spiraled into a much larger road rage situation.

When the light turned green, both vehicles continued north on Union. That’s when the Subaru driver’s behavior reportedly escalated. The Subaru sped past the truck in the middle lane, with the driver screaming, flipping off the occupants, and waving his hand out the window.

Moments later, the Subaru moved ahead into the left turn lane to get onto Briargate. Coincidentally, that was also the route Gunn and his coworker needed to take to return to work. Sensing that the situation was getting worse, Gunn pulled out his phone and began recording. He later said the Subaru driver’s erratic actions gave him a strong feeling that “something stupid was about to happen.” That feeling turned out to be right.

As both vehicles approached the turn, the Subaru suddenly slammed on its brakes. There was only about 1.6 seconds between the Subaru’s taillights lighting up and the impact, leaving the truck with almost no time to react. The road was wet, making the situation even more dangerous. In the recording, the sound of tires skidding can be heard as the Subaru fully locked up its brakes. The footage reportedly shows the rear of the Subaru lifting sharply in less than half a second, a detail that many viewers interpreted as an intentional and aggressive brake check fueled by road rage.

The collision followed immediately. After the crash, the Subaru driver confronted the occupants of the truck in a continued fit of anger. Despite the extremely short reaction window and the road conditions, police issued a ticket to the truck’s driver as well. Officers reportedly questioned why the truck did not stop in time, a point that left Gunn and his coworker stunned given the mere 1.6 seconds they had to respond.

Once the video made its way online, reactions poured in. Many users were furious at what they described as reckless road rage behavior, calling the Subaru driver immature and irresponsible. “A true menace. Yank that license,” one commenter wrote. Others, however, questioned whether the truck should have increased its following distance once the road rage signs became obvious, arguing that defensive driving is sometimes the only protection when dealing with aggressive drivers on Colorado roads.
