Of all the surprising stuff you could find in Walmart, a real dog is likely not one of them, but one Walmart in Durango, Colorado, was a special case. A Walmart shopper managed to find a scared Border Collie hiding in the lettuce and leafy greens produce section in the Colorado Walmart. Thankfully, they managed to rescue the dog without incident, though the harder part is looking for its owner, who appears nowhere near the vicinity. Here’s the video:
The incident supposedly happened on Sunday, August 10, and was posted to the Durango city subreddit by Reddit user Mental_Pie8504. You can see the blonde Walmart shopper trying to reach between the lettuce shelves and eventually yanking out a scared and reluctant Border Collie who appears to have a collar. Some of the commenters were quick to judge the woman, assuming that it was her dog; however, you can also hear her saying, “Let’s go find your mom” to the dog.
Given how the dog appears to be scared of her, the Walmart shopper is likely not the owner or fur parent. It’s also not clear how the Border Collie got into the store. For all we know, it might have escaped from a nearby suburb and wanted to find a cool place in which to rest or hide.
Others suspected that perhaps the owner is nearby and was just careless. Whatever the case, though, many people still voiced their opinions about the apparently worsening dog or pet ownership behavior in the US, whether through outright neglect or ignorance.
What People Had to Say About the Lost Border Collie
Apart from the poor and scared Border Collie just hanging out on top of the supposedly fresh produce, many people were concerned about an un-leashed dog running around in the supermarket, possibly spreading fecal matter. It’s even worse, because it was a full-sized dog, which typically isn’t easy to clean or bathe.
“Sh*tty dog ownership really seems to have peaked this year,” rants DeeVoc
“Bringing a dog to the grocery store with no leash is absolutely unhinged behavior lol,” according to crawshay
“The carts at Walmart are also covered in dog fecal matter. It’s so unsanitary to have random animals in a grocery store,” claims doctorsnowohno
“Also why you should always wash your produce!” says ilanarama
Hence, some users even volunteered to adopt the lost Border Collie. However, Reddit user GreenlyCrow allegedly heard the Walmart shopper tell the other shoppers that “it’s her friends dog”. Hence, the Border Collie might have been returned to its rightful owner already, which is a shame as some potential adopters perhaps wanted to rename the lettuce Border Collie “Romaine.” Other jokes and puns poured in, so we can end this piece on a lighter note, and have a laugh, just don’t forget to wash your veggies before eating them.
“Poor dog was in the wrong produce cooler, clearly should have been in with the Collie Flower,” jokes decoparts
“you’re a very bad boy, Romaine,” laughs BR1N3DM1ND
