Columbus Drivers Seem to Be Afraid of Using the Right Lane When Driving: ‘I Always Feel Invisible to Police in the Right Lane’

Living life in only two lanes

By now, it shouldn’t be a surprise that drivers in Columbus, Ohio, are the talk of many. What may seem like a meme isn’t, as many of these people truly prove that this city has some of the worst drivers in the country. However, the recent situation doesn’t involve a car accident or something too egregious. Instead, it shows how some people in Columbus are afraid of using the right-hand lane. Ironically, the lane that should house the slowest drivers is now the one that is the fastest or the least crowded in this case.

Fear of the right-hand lane

Redditor at614inthe614 shared the picture on the r/Ohio subreddit. They explain how the right-hand lane on the highway between Columbus and Akron is completely empty, as drivers prefer to take the other two lanes. As you know, the right-hand lane is reserved for cars that go at slow speeds. Apparently, that’s something Columbus drivers don’t know about, but it’s a blessing in disguise. Many commuters now use this lane due to how empty it is. While they can’t go at high speeds or overtake many vehicles, they certainly go at a steadier pace, but most importantly, without being bothered by other people.

As you can expect, many Redditors shared their Columbus driving experiences, while others saw this as an opportunity to make a few funny remarks on the matter.

“My favorite is the guy who comes flying on the highway cuts across three lanes of traffic to gun it in the left lane at an eye watering 61 mph.” – dandy_of_the_swamp via Reddit.

“I always feel invisible to police in the right lane, so it seems safer to speed there ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ” – Danijoe4 via Reddit.

Ultimately, this shows a worrying situation in Columbus and all around the country. Authorities don’t really enforce traffic laws as they should. Most people stick to the left-hand lane because that’s where they can speed. However, they often fight for it and tend to cause accidents. On the other hand, people can enjoy a traffic-free lane, albeit at a slower speed. But if you aren’t in a hurry, it’s nothing but an open road without crazy drivers.
