Comedian Trevor Noah has announced that he is leaving The Daily Show on Comedy Central after seven years. Variety reports that Noah announced his plans to leave the Comedy Central show Thursday night’s taping of the program in New York. Noah took over the show formerly hosted by Jon Stewart in 2015. Comedy Central said in a statement, “We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years.  With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on the next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”

Why Is Trevor Noah Leaving ‘The Daily Show’

The Hollywood Reporter gives more details of Noah’s announcement to leave The Daily Show. Noah explained that returning to stand-up after the pandemic made him realize he wanted to explore other parts of his life, including learning other languages and putting on shows in other countries. Noah’s full announcement can be viewed in the tweet below:

The South African comedian, who at 38 is the youngest working late-night host, was almost unknown when he took over for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. While his first two years garnered some scrutiny, he gained a rating bump and major awards clout when Donald Trump was elected president in 2016. Noah called that election night, which he called “Hurricane Trump,” the moment he came into his own and stopped feeling like Stewart’s replacement.

Trevor Noah’s departure from The Daily Show is the latest in a series of changes to the late-night talk show scene. It’s only been two years since Conan O’Brien left his TBS talk show. More recently, James Corden announced that he is leaving The Late Late Show, and TBS canceled Full Frontal With Samantha Bee?
