The South African comedian, who at 38 is the youngest working late-night host, was almost unknown when he took over for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. While his first two years garnered some scrutiny, he gained a rating bump and major awards clout when Donald Trump was elected president in 2016. Noah called that election night, which he called “Hurricane Trump,” the moment he came into his own and stopped feeling like Stewart’s replacement.
Trevor Noah’s departure from The Daily Show is the latest in a series of changes to the late-night talk show scene. It’s only been two years since Conan O’Brien left his TBS talk show. More recently, James Corden announced that he is leaving The Late Late Show, and TBS canceled Full Frontal With Samantha Bee?
