The Trump administration began its second, non-consecutive term on January 20, 2025, which means that the 45th president of the US has been in power for about seven and a half months now. With the array of drastic policy changes that have been made by Trump recently, some citizens have been left concerned. A viral video that is circulating on social media right now centers on a Massachusetts mother who received an unusual letter from her local high school. In said letter, it requests information about her twin sons, who’ve just started high school, and it says that this information is to be passed on to “military recruiters” due to a “new law”. Of course, the mom is not very pleased by this at all.
The video, which was posted to TikTok by user @ms.allenby, reveals the contents of the mysterious letter, and gives a glimpse into the many changes that are occurring across the US right now. Sporting a black cap and a blue hoodie, the concerned Massachusetts mom introduces herself and explains a few things before getting into the heart of the matter, saying, “I have 14-year-old twin boys. I dropped them off at our town’s public high school for the first time on Wednesday.“
After a short pre-amble, the mother gets down to brass tacks, and holds up a yellow letter in front of the camera, explaining, “Can we talk about this? I’m gonna do a screenshot of it at the end, but I’m gonna also read it to you. This came home in my 14-year-old sons’ bag in the plethora of paperwork we have to fill out every year. It’s a new one. It’s a new one. So, let’s read it.”
The next part sees the mother reading the letter out loud in front of her followers on social media. Specifically:
To parents and guardians, a new law has been passed that all school districts must release to military recruiters the name, address, and phone number of all junior and senior students.

The new law states that schools will request parents and guardians to complete a form indicating whether they grant permission for this information to be released to the military.
The notification advises that in the event that they fail to complete and return this form to school, all requests for this information by the military will be honored.
In order for your request to be honored, please complete and fill out the form below, and return it to the guidance office at Greenfield High School only if you would like your student to be opted out. Please return this form by September 13th, 2025.
Going further, the concerned mom clarifies that the form requires the student’s first and last name, grade, the student’s signature and the parent’s signature. The mother then shows off the yellow form on screen, before giving her reaction to the letter. “So, what the f*ck is this?” the mom exclaims. “The wording in this. My husband and I had to read it five times. It sounds like in order to opt out, I need to fill out the information, they need to sign it, we need to sign it, and we need to bring it in. And I’m like, no you’re not signing anything that has anything to do with our child’s — minors’ children’s — information and the f*cking US military under this regime. But it’s worded like you if you want to opt out, fill it out, bring it in, and if you don’t bring it in, we’re gonna do it anyway. Why would we fill it out to opt out?“
What’s interesting is that the form doesn’t explicitly state what the specific “new law” actually is. On top of that, the concerned mother highlights a fascinating point, expressing, “I feel like every pubic school student — high school age — received this letter in their backpacks, and I’m telling you right now, the private school kids didn’t. I would put my life savings on it. You gonna tell me all the private school, boarding schools sent that letter home? No. This went to public school, high school age students under this administration. This is new. There’s a new law. But the law is not stated.” She ends the video saying, “Please tell me I’m not the only parent who is, like, highly concerned.”
As the video clip continues to snowball online, social media users took to the comments to air their thoughts on the mysterious letter. Over on Reddit, an alleged former military veteran wrote, “As a veteran, tell them to f*ck off.” A second commenter agreed, stating, “Fellow veteran here, I agree.” Over on TikTok, other users chimed in, with one penning, “As a Canadian, it’s weird to see that everything that people were warned about before the last election is now happening and people are surprised? The censorship must have been huge for Americans because Project 2025 outlines all of this very clearly.” Lastly, another commenter added, “the fact they didn’t specify the “new law” seems Hella suspicious to me“
