A grieving Connecticut man is struggling to cope after a shocking decision to shave his late wife’s head following her death was made without his consent. A friend of the widower has spoken out about the situation and is now asking for legal advice, wondering what his heartbroken friend can do, if anything, especially since the woman’s other family members seemingly authorized the shocking move to have a memento of their late loved one.
In a sad Reddit post, it was revealed that the Connecticut man is truly suffering not only from the loss of his wife, but also because her hair was shaved off before her cremation. Instead of asking the deceased woman’s husband for consent, the funeral director went to her brothers instead. They allegedly authorized the removal of her hair, which they later presented to her husband as a keepsake.
The entire situation has made the woman’s passing that much harder for her husband, and his friend revealed that he’s really struggling to move past the shocking decision her brothers made before her cremation.
Connecticut Man ‘A Mess’ After Late Wife’s Head Was Shaved by Funeral Director
“He is disheveled, angry, and is a complete mess over the idea of his wife’s corpse having its head shaved,” the Redditor wrote. “His brother-in-laws presented the hair to him, and he has been a mess since.”
The friend also asked if it was legal for the funeral director to make that kind of move without speaking to her husband, who should have been considered the decision maker and next of kin in the situation.
Of course, many people on the forum shared their sympathies and thoughts about the terrible situation. Some even revealed that the man should lawyer up before deciding his next course of action.
“I am so sorry to hear this. This is likely not legal. Taking a small lock of hair wouldn’t necessarily be seen as major action, but shaving the head is a significant physical alteration and would require explicit consent from the legal next of kin,” one person commented.
“Should also be documented and brought to an attorney regarding damages,” said another.
“I’d be surprised if the funeral directors initiated this act. The family usually initiates a conversation of this nature,” a third person stated.
“I can only imagine how horrified he felt getting the hair,” a fourth comment read.
This is obviously a very sensitive and unfortunate situation for the Connecticut husband and his late wife’s family. Sadly, it seems that a little communication could have prevented this all from happening.
