Even in the big 2025, racism remains a significant issue in the United States. People of color continue to face racial profiling and exclusion in various settings. For example, in Manchester, Connecticut, a Black man was approached by his apartment building manager while he was working out in the loft gym. The manager questioned his presence there, assuming he didn’t live in any of the units. The man was simply exercising and minding his own business, which raises the question of what specifically prompted the property manager’s suspicion.
The above video was posted to a TikTok profile titled @judgedbycourt, which is run by a black man. All of the videos posted to the account are of positive affirmations or other personal things going on in his life. However, this particular video heads in a different direction, starting out with him working out inside a gym. There is a mirror positioned toward the camera that captures the door of the gym opening, and a woman claiming to be the property manager enters. Suddenly, a small dispute can be heard, asking the black man to identify himself and prove that he lives there.
The man explained that he refuses to prove that he lives there and that he’s been going to the gym just about every day. In fact, he’s never even seen them before. The conversation continues to escalate to the point where the woman starts to threaten the man to leave or else she will call the police. Commentators were quick to notice this particular comment, with one person replying with, “Call the police and do what ?! Send you upstairs 😭😭“
What’s even worse is that @judgedbycourt later posted the entire video, which left out a few key details. When the property manager entered, she was accompanied by what is likely to be a maintenance man who was also trying to have the man working out removed. But apparently, he had visited the black man’s apartment in the past and gotten a Gatorade from him over the summer, to which he acknowledged. So, if the maintenance man knew him, how come he didn’t say anything to the property manager? Even one of the commentators under this video knew what was going on, saying, “So wait, he knows you and didn’t inform her that you live there? So, basically he’s in for the racist profiling. Got it!!!“
Hopefully, a follow-up video with additional details will be posted, because I am so curious to know what happened. The entire situation seemed very sketchy, and I’d love to know how everything was handled in the end.
