It’s no secret that women around the world are constantly being victimized. It doesn’t matter what they’re doing or how they’re doing it; women can almost always expect men to do something scary to them. One content creator living in Japan posted to TikTok about what it is like to live in the country as a woman. Buckle your seatbelts because it’s actually pretty terrifying what women need to do just to feel safe.

The video depicts an American woman who now lives in Japan and discusses how often women get stalked. She talks about how the peephole to her apartment door was pushed out and into her home. She surmises that someone must have attempted to either look or break into her apartment when she wasn’t home since the other side of the peephole was nowhere to be found. To rectify this, she placed tissue paper into the now hollow peephole and a magnet to cover it. That way, if the magnet or paper is moved, she can confirm her fears.

Unfortunately, when she returned to her apartment, the magnet and the bit of tissue paper shoved inside had been moved. It appeared that someone had paid her apartment a visit without her consent. That’s where she ends the video, and tons of commenters went to the replies to share their concerns.

“Regardless of the country, it must be terrifying for women, to go through a constant feeling of being watched. I mean, having to be on guard all the time must be mentally draining.”

Unfortunately, that is the reality of being a woman in just about any country. While it might not be the same as it is in Japan, there are still many things that women need to actively watch for whenever they decide to walk or live alone. Hopefully, the content creator was able to find a different and much safer place to live.
