However, this man in Texas approached a teenager in a community park to confront him about his fishing license, but since the kid didn’t have one, the man became aggressive and threatened him. This man only went up to the boy to intimidate the minor, and he had no legal right to ask for information or documents.
Outraged, Redditor Illustrious_Ad9163 shared a video on r/Austin of their 14-year-old son being threatened by a random man. The teenager was quietly fishing in the community park in his neighborhood in Austin, Texas, until the man approached him to ask about his fishing license. The boy denied having a fishing license and even said he didn’t need one. The man began to insist that he did need one and couldn’t fish without it, but his anger quickly escalated. The man almost immediately began yelling and insulting the teenager, threatening to “drown him” if he didn’t leave and saying he didn’t want to see him in the area again before walking away.
Fortunately, the bright teenager recorded the entire interaction, but the man appeared only in one blurry frame. This prompted the teenager’s parent to consult about the community’s safety and its children. Redditors first responded with links to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) website. The reason is that regulations require you to be at least 17 years old to obtain a license. So the man’s approach was wrong, and his sources are incorrect as well.
“You also should never provide your license or information to any non-uniformed person who cannot at least provide a Game Warden/LEO badge. I got in an argument with a lady who claimed she worked with the parks department and had to confirm this with the game wardens,” said Erickonfire.
Although most Reddit users focused more on the fact that no civilian has the right to demand information as the man in the video did. The post does not provide any further information about what happened after the incident. However, one Reddit user says that this story appeared on another subreddit. Furthermore, according to the supposed post in the other subreddit, the police and HOA were contacted. So let’s hope that man gets what he deserves.
