Dealing with annoying neighbors can be a nightmare, but when they start to threaten the safety of your home, you need to take action. With that in mind, a family in Oregon had unhinged neighbors that were beyond simply bothersome but borderline dangerous. It started with the neighbors doing stuff to the property without permission, such as cutting down tall grass or removing branches off trees. The wife then threatened the next-door family’s children that she would kill their pet rooster and dismantle the kids’ stick forts. If this all wasn’t bad enough, things escalated when the neighbor removed the security after trespassing on their home.
“Reviewing the footage, we have a video of her walking up to it and taking it and walking away,” the mother explains, referring to the wife next door. “We don’t want to exacerbate the situation, but [we] are sick of their rude, disrespectful ways and want them to keep the hell away from our yard and use the easement strictly for the legally allowed access/utility purposes only.” Seeing how the neighbors went from being disrespectful to intimidating and finally compromising the family’s surveillance system, this all should definitely be escalated to the police.
Easement or not, the neighbor’s act of vandalizing the security camera is still theft. After getting the police involved, Reddit users believe the family should “press charges of trespassing, theft, and harassment.” On the mother’s post about the whole matter, an overwhelming majority of commenters strongly recommend that police reports be made and charges be pressed. “This is trespassing and theft. If they don’t want you to have cameras to see what they’re doing, they’re going to likely try some crazy sh*t,” remarked one user.
Bizarrely enough, it seems like the family’s mom is a bit too soft on the neighbor’s unhinged behavior. “None of the things are big deals, but also not within her rights, and just create a really unpleasant living situation,” she noted in a response to a comment. “Uh she told your kids she’d kill their pet and you DIDN’T think that was a big deal???” said a shocked commenter. “If someone threatened to shoot something on my property to my children, I would see them as a threat. Who, in their right mind, threatens to kill someone’s livestock with a gun?” chimes in another.
Many would probably agree that OP, the family’s mom, is vastly underreacting to the situation. As one person put it: “These people purposely terrify your kid, they steal your property, and they violate your express wishes regarding your own property.” Hopefully, the family puts their feet down and has the authorities give the absurd neighbors what’s coming to them.
