Just when I think I’ve seen it all, the internet never ceases to surprise me with unbelievably bizarre scenarios. A driver in an SUV was spotted speeding down U.S. Route 290 in Texas — with both left tires of the vehicle missing. Needless to say, sparks were flying as the rubberless metal wheels rolled across the highway pavement, likely ruining the roads. A local resident out with their friend on 290 at 10 pm recorded a video of the daredevil driver as it merged onto a toll road and disappeared out of view.
“From the way they were driving, it looked like they were in control of the vehicle,” said the driver who recorded the video. Not only were the two left tires missing, but the SUV’s door on the driver’s side was smashed in. Uploading the recording to Reddit, OP said they called and reported the incident to the police but haven’t the slightest clue what happened to the crazy SUV driver, before or after. “Does anybody know what happened to them?” they ask, looking for any leads from fellow Redditors.
“Starting to think Austin has its own Florida Man, people,” joked the top commenter, referring to how such wild and outlandish incidents typically occur with a random man in Florida. “Every time I see an a**hole driver you can bet the plates are CA or FL,” another chimed in. “Most of the California transplants have adopted the Texas plates since they are now true Austinites. The Florida plates stay out of pride.” A third came in, saying that they believe it’s the locals who are the rudest and hate anyone not from the state.
Besides the small culture war between states that the post triggered, some other users did actually consider why the SUV was missing its tires. “Probably a stolen vehicle. I had a truck stolen once, when I got it back one rim was ground down to almost nothing. They joyride until they blow out a tire and then keep going until the are where they can dump it,” recalled a commenter. Seeing the poor shape of the SUV’s door, this theory might not be too far off. “You expect people to afford 4 tires in this economy?!? Check your privilege, bro,” joked another.
Whatever the case, it’s good that OP kept their distance, as anyone driving near the crazy SUV driver was bound to be at risk of a highway accident.
