The astounding number of times women are approached by men with unwanted attention is alarming and needs to be studied. Ask any woman and they’ll probably tell you that they’ve been repeatedly cat-called or otherwise heckled against their will. One woman in New York felt true fear when a man followed her into a coffee shop to harass her. Luckily, several parties were willing to help, but it’s sad that it has to be that way.
Liv (@livlivinlife__) posted a TikTok showing a scary experience that could have gone horribly wrong at a New York coffee shop. In the video, Liv looks alarmed as she tries her best to ignore somebody outside the shop. As she’s writing, a man comes up behind her and tells her, “I was rapping on the window” to get her attention. He continues, “I’m a gangster. I see angels around you.” Liv awkwardly smiles at him but says nothing, claiming the interaction rightfully scared her.
As he continues on, oblivious to how uncomfortable he’s making her, Liv turns her attention back to her writing. A barista steps in at that point, asking the man to leave. He doesn’t listen. While the stranger continues to harass Liv, she sees another man approaching from behind her. He immediately jumps into action, pretending he knows Liv. For the next few minutes, while the creepy stranger is exiting the coffee shop, the man stays and talks to Liv for her own safety.
Liv asks the man, “Is he still here?” When he tells her no and tells her to have a good one, she thanks him and says it was “really sweet” of him to do that. It’s sad that women literally minding their own business can’t enjoy time at a café without an unwarranted approach from a male.
One commenter pointed out, “I hate that we often need a man to have to step in for things like this to stop, it’s so unfair. I’m so glad he did that for you tho.” Another commenter said, “Good intentions don’t give u a pass to stomp on someones boundaries. If anyone for any reason keeps disengaging from u no matter ur intentions u r obligated to back off.” It’s called taking a hint, though some people can’t grasp that for whatever reason.
