It’s rare to hear that a game has surpassed the likes of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption 2, but one soon-to-launch game has done it, at least in one area. If you haven’t heard, Crimson Desert has released new information and gameplay footage, and among the juicy details, it seems that this new endeavor from Pearl Abyss will feature one of the largest maps we’ve seen in any open-world title. And yes, that means it will be even bigger than the one in Red Dead Redemption 2 or Skyrim.
Crimson Desert’s Map Will Be Bigger Than RDR2 and Skyrim’s
If you didn’t watch the recent New Game Plus showcase, the developers of Crimson Desert were interviewed (you can watch the whole video above) and shared many details of this upcoming ambitious open-world title. One of the most shocking details revealed during this interview pertains to the map size of Crimson Desert, where the developers said: “The world’s at least twice as big as the open world of Skyrim.” They also mentioned that it is bigger than the playable area of Red Dead Redemption 2.
As you can see, this is a bold statement, yet one we don’t think might be too far-fetched. We’ve all seen gameplay footage and know the world is going to be huge. However, having an actual comparison is much better now, as we all remember the worlds of the abovementioned games, and with Crimson Desert eclipsing them, then it means we’re in for a wild ride.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to dive into this expansive open world. As you know, Crimson Desert finally got a release date for March of 2026, and the clock is ticking. We’ll soon be riding dragons, piloting mechs, and jumping off floating islands in style. If you haven’t, you can pre-order the game to get some extra goodies, including some armor sets and even cosmetic items for your horse.
