Critical Role has always been in touch with their fans. With featuring weekly fanart, giving prizes for cosplays, and collaborating with talented fans for products such as t-shirts and comic books, their new announcement should come as no surprise. With their animated series currently in pre-production, they have decided to give fans and Kickstarter backers what they have been asking for.

The animated series, titled The Legend of Vox Machina, was launched on Kickstarter and broke records with over $11 million raised in 45 days. It’s based upon the first campaign of their Dungeons and Dragons Livestream. It was recently picked up by Amazon, which lengthened the overall season and added a second, as well. The cast of Critical Role has been giving some updates as they can. This included an early look at character design, a Q&A with the animation team Titmouse, and some insight on the writing process. But with so much happening behind the scenes, they have decided to create a video series for fans.

In an announcement by Marisha Ray, Travis Willingham, and Sam Riegel, it was revealed that this series would come very soon. They have already been working on it, and the videos will cover many aspects of the production process. Casting, music, recording, character design, and writing are among the many things that fans will get to see.

Critical Role has been a shining example of how new modern media and marketing techniques can have a massive effect on a company’s success. This little show only launched in 2015 on Geek & Sundry’s Twitch channel. Now it has grown to have a life of its own, with comics, merchandise, live events, and the animated series. Despite all this growth and success, the cast endearingly stays humble, thankful to their fans, and continues to keep the base of ‘Critters’ as involved and knowledgeable as possible.
