Many say that becoming a parent changes you for the better, but for some adults, becoming a parent shows what kind of vile lowlife they truly are. For instance, it’s one thing to live in a pigsty by avoiding proper hygienic and cleanliness practices. But it’s an entirely different problem when said despicable lifestyle affects the life of something else, especially an innocent child. That said, a Florida couple was taken into custody by Flagler County Police, not for living like pigs, but for carelessly letting cockroaches crawl all over their 1-year-old son.
Authorities had discovered the poor child in this dreadful situation after they came into the house to do a welfare check on an 81-year-old who lived in the same home. The elderly man was lying on a mattress on the floor, bugs crawling atop his bedding and into his clothes. The many stains reported to be visible on the mattress should tell you how awfully neglected the old man was. Things were just as bad for the baby responders discovered at the scene.
“Roaches and bugs were observed crawling over [the 1-year-old] while he slept,” the affidavit reads, per TownFlex. Horrified at how the elderly man and baby were being treated, authorities arrested the couple in charge, charging them with cruelty towards a child and a disabled adult. According to the local sheriff, “This was not a matter of money; they did not care about the hygiene of their home, the welfare of their child, or the medical needs of their family members. They put in zero effort.”
It goes without saying that online users were horrified to hear about this unbelievable Florida couple as well. “This is horrifying and so sad. They are barely barnyard animals,” remarks one commenter. “Straight trash,” another said in insult. Hopefully, the elderly man and the baby boy are taken out of that disgusting house of horrors and find a family who will actually care for them.
