Here’s something you don’t see on the roads every day: a Saab convertible, flailing like a possessed marionette, being yanked down a Houston freeway in reverse by a white SUV, while stunned drivers attempt to steer clear of what looked like an outtake from The Fast and the Flailing. Seriously.
Captured Monday in Texas, on Houston’s North Loop near Highway 290, the incident has already become a viral curiosity. Redditors and commuters alike are trying to make sense of the bizarre scene.
In the video, the SUV barrels ahead as if nothing is wrong, towing the Saab with what appears to be a chain. The car swung left and right erratically, and worst of all there’s someone inside it!
“I was like 0:40 into it before I realized there’s someone in the Saab,” Reddit user jbvolk wrote. “This is insane.”
Even more surreal, it’s a convertible. Which, as user OakParkCooperative noted adds another layer of nightmare fuel:
“Imagine rolling over while being dragged down the highway in reverse.”
Eyewitness David Chairez, a generator delivery driver, described the ordeal to local news outlet ABC13:
“It looked like a scene from Fast & Furious. That was very reckless, and that was very dangerous.”
Chairez and his coworker initially thought the car was empty. Only as they drew closer did they notice a man inside, evidently steering — or attempting to. The SUV driver, reportedly a woman, appeared to be laughing.
Naturally, Reddit wasted no time filling in the blanks. Some imagined the event sparked by a revenge-fueled parking lot feud:
“Maybe Saab swooped in and stole SUV’s parking spot… they weren’t having any of that,” speculated FS_Slacker.
One especially darkly comic interpretation came from Unknown–Comic4894:
Is this a GTA 6 side quest?
But behind the gallows humor lies a legitimate threat. Highway towing is dangerous even under controlled conditions. Towing at full freeway speed with a human passenger, minimal control, and no hazard markers is pure chaos.
“The more you think about it,” one user reflected, “that situation is actually horrifying. One chain break, and that Saab is in a head-on collision.”
Police have yet to issue a formal citation, though law enforcement told local media the SUV driver could face charges for failing to maintain a single lane and other traffic violations.
As for the Saab, its fate remains unknown, though it’s safe to assume it didn’t leave that freeway looking showroom-ready. “If he just put it in neutral,” user Distortedhideaway wrote, “the car might survive this.” A chorus of Redditors agreed that the driver may have been riding the brakes, making an already bad situation worse.
