The Dark Pictures Anthology series has forced players to survive a cursed ship in the middle of the ocean and explore a mysterious town steeped in the occult. Now, in House of Ashes, the series is dropping players into the ruins of a buried temple, and something terrifying is lurking in the dark.
An eight-minute-long gameplay trailer for the newest Dark Pictures Anthology game can be seen down below. It heavily focuses on the traditional split-screen gameplay players have come to know from the franchise.
From what can be seen in the trailer, the next title feels like The Descent mixed with a little Tomb Raider. Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes focuses on four American soldiers after a helicopter crash:
[It’s] 2003, in the shadow of the Zagros mountains in Iraq where a military unit is caught within the ruins of a buried Sumerian temple. Something ancient and evil has awakened in the shadows and has found a new prey to hunt. Will they each prioritize their own survival, or put aside their fears and their personal rivalries to fight together as one?”
As of this writing, Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes does not have an official release date, but it is slated for release later this year. The interactive horror experiences will be available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. In the meantime, Man of Medan and Little Hope, the first two iterations of the Dark Pictures Anthology, are available now along with Until Dawn, the game that started it all.
