Dark Souls 3 has recently been facing some rather dark times. However, the wall of fog may be about to give way. Dark Souls developer FromSoftware today announced that online servers for Dark Souls 3 have now been reactivated. Players looking to team up against Dark Souls bosses, or take each other out, now once again have the luxury of doing either at any time. Doubtless, this news will relieve many in the Souls community, given the extended delay of this patch.
Foes Near and Far…
The servers were initially taken down following the discovery of an exploit, which allowed savvy and unscrupulous users to gain controlling access to another player’s computer. Given the obvious malicious potential, the necessity of servers being temporarily taken offline was hardly questionable. The Dark Souls fanbase has ever been a contentious lot. The sight of exploits and malicious trolling often being as common as hot dogs in a baseball park. Taking all online servers down forthwith might not have been a popular decision, but absolutely a necessary one.
Small comfort to adventurers…
However, while Dark Souls 3 servers are now once again online, prior entries in the series have yet to likewise have their servers restored. FromSoftware declared in a public statement that they “are working to restore these features for all other Dark Souls titles.” However, no details have yet been released, indicating how soon players can expect to see online support re-enabled there. FromSoftware has many virtues, but neither quality nor speed surrounding post-launch support have ever been among them.
FromSoftware declared that the studio “will inform you when [Dark Souls & Dark Souls 2 servers] are back in service.” The statement then ended with an empty platitude, thanking fans “once more for your patience and support.” The biggest show of thanks fans likely hope for is a patch that doesn’t take almost the equivocal length of pregnancy to deliver.
