Roguelikes are easily some of the strongest indie games out there. The amount of passion and charm that developers put into this genre is insane. Its quickly become one of my favorite genres ever since playing Enter the Gungeon. Sitting down with a roguelike, succeeding, and failing for hours never gets old. Darksburg is one such roguelike, coming out of the studio that brought us Northgard and Evoland. They’ve been developing this co-op zombie roguelike for some time now, and have some great news to share today. Darksburg will be leaving Steam Early Access on September 23rd, bringing another indie roguelike out into the world. The team released a trailer today, which you can find below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgpDqjV9O3M&feature=youtu.be

Darksburg drops you and your friends as four survivors of a plague that has covered most of the world. One of the final remaining bastions of hope is the medieval city of Darksburg, filled with remnants of civilization. As your team, you must hold off the invasion or the town will be lost, putting an end to humanity. You can choose from Varag the Wolfman, innkeeper Runolf, warrior nun Sister Abigail, bounty hunter Rose, or macabre medic Dolorosa. You’ll have to miss one, so be sure to choose your team carefully.

Along with your runs, you and your team will unlock customization options, perks, and new difficulties. You can also try the Outbreak Mode, an endless run that gets harder and harder, but snags your character some unique rewards. If you don’t have friends to play any of this with though, no worries. Darksburg is designed in such a way that solo play is entirely possible, so you can join in on the medieval slaying as well!

Darksburg looks quite exciting, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. Will you be defending the city of Darksburg with your friends? Or running it solo is perhaps more your style? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
