Speaking of unexpected happenings, did you see that announcement for Darksiders 3? That’s right people. THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games have just announced through IGN’s, IGN First initiative that Darksiders 3 is currently in development, and is scheduled to release sometime in 2018 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The announcement comes alongside a new cinematic trailer, showcasing first-time protagonist, Fury. Fury is the third playable member of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, (War and Death being playable in the previous two games). She is clothed in thick Armor similar to that of War, has flowing purple hair and her weapon of choice seems to be some kind of red energy whip. The game will continue on the story of the four horsemen but is set around the same time as Darksiders 2 (2012). Fury’s main goal throughout this new entry will be to defeat personified forms of the 7 deadly sins. Darksiders 3, much like its predecessors, is an open world action-adventure. The game will juggle a mixture of God of War style hack and slash combat and exploration/ environmental puzzles akin to The Legend of Zelda.
Many believed Darksiders would never again see the light of day after publisher THQ filed for bankruptcy. However, it seems many familiar faces will be working on the title. Gunfire Games’ development team includes multiple ex-Vigil Games employees who worked on Darksiders and Darksiders 2, including the Game Director, Executive Producer, Technical Director, Lead Environment Artist, and more. The team, which was formed in 2014, has already worked on the likes of Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition and Chronos.
The last month has been jam packed with game announcement after game announcement. From Destiny 2 to Call of Duty WW2, to Middle Earth: Shadow of War to Code Vein. The latter of which received its first trailer today and looks to be a Souls like game with an anime art style. Here’s hoping there are still a few announcements left for E3.
