The Suicide Squad will have a big change for its sequel! Don’t worry all the characters will still be there. However, David Ayer will no longer be directing the sequel. Instead, James Gunn will now be writing and potentially directing the next Suicide Squad movie.
Here’s what David Ayer had to say on Twitter:
I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job! https://t.co/KaVD3dQosR

The news that Gunn will be writing and possibly directing the sequel to Suicide Squad came earlier this week. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in the Guardians of The Galaxy movies, showed his support via Twitter. Prior to this news, Bautista has gone on record stating his disapproval of how Disney handled Gunn’s termination. It looks like Bautista may even want to jump ship to the DCEU:
Where do I sign up! James Gunn Boards ‘Suicide Squad 2’ To Write And Possibly Direct – Deadline https://t.co/OwdDbAm1Ks

James Gunn was fired from Guardians of The Galaxy vol. 3 shortly after a series of questionable old tweets. They went viral and then went on to cost James Gunn his job. His representatives fought as hard as they could to get him back but Disney wasn’t having it.
Gunn was producing a horror film called, Brightburn but it was since postponed for a Memorial Day Weekend release in 2019. This is most likely due to Gunn taking on the job to write and direct for the Suicide Squad sequel.
He is definitely more than qualified for the position. James Gunn wrote and produced Guardians of The Galaxy of course, which has several very different characters on a team. This is very similar to the Suicide Squad team.
If he’s able to write and produce interactive and entertaining content for one movie, I’m sure the Suicide Squad sequel won’t be that much different for him. Needless to say, he has a DEADSHOT of getting this right.
He may even do it better than Ayer. The original Suicide Squad movie didn’t do so well. The movie only received a six point one rating on IMDB, a 40 out of 100 on Metacritic and a 28% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
What do you think? Can James Gunn bring the DC universe movies back to life? Let us know in the comments.
