Days of Our Lives fans are used to seeing old characters return, and people come back to life on a regular basis. However, after beloved actor Joseph Mascolo passed away, many thought that would be the official end of his iconic character, Stefano DiMera. After Stefano was shot to death by Hope Brady, it seemed that he was gone for good. However, the Peacock soap opera just can’t seem to let him rest in peace.
Recently, Days of Our Lives has been teasing the idea that Stefano DiMera is still alive. The soap has been flirting with the idea of bringing Stefano back for years. First, they opted to introduce his long-lost son, Stefan O. DiMera. Since that time, Stefan has become a fan-favorite character. After that, they put a microchip in Steve Johnson’s brain that gave him Stefano’s essence.
However, there has been no Stefano interference in Salem since then. Now, all that could be changing. Rumors are circulating that Stefano is on his way back to the sudser, and that the recast will be none other than actor James Scott, who previously played the role of Stefano’s son, EJ DiMera, per one fan site.
Will James Scott Return to Days of Our Lives as Stefano DiMera?
Scott originated the role of EJ before his character was killed off. Later, EJ was resurrected with actor Dan Feuerriegel in the role. Although Feuerriegel has wormed his way into the hearts of DOOL viewers, Scott has often been considered the epitome of EJ.
James Scott’s possible return would likely be welcomed by many Days of Our Lives viewers. While no one will ever be able to fill the shoes of Joseph Mascolo, Scott worked closely with the soap opera icon for years. He also knows the ins and outs of the DiMera family and their deeply rooted history in Salem.
Of course, fans have a lot of opinions about the possible Stefano recast.
“James Scott will always be the real EJ Dimera to me. I would want him back in any Dimera role—maybe Stefano’s younger brother??? Something where he could be believable but still carry the Dimera panache,” one person commented via Facebook.
“I love James Scott, however there is only one Stefano DiMera. Think of new storyline, create a new villian and leave Stefano gone,” another wrote.
“You gotta be kidding me,” another person exclaimed.
“That is probably the only way Stefano could be recast!” suggested another.
Nothing has been confirmed, but Days of Our Lives has been known for pulling off wild recasts and storylines in the past. It could work, but like all other Salem storylines, fans would have to adjust.
