New York Comic Con is officially underway, and DC Comics wasted no time announcing that the fan-favorite Elseworlds imprint is coming back. The publisher revealed that the return to Elseworlds includes six new titles set within the universe. These new titles include Batman: Nightfire by Seth and Clay Mann and Batman the Barbarian by Greg Smallwood. Plus, the imprint contains sequels to two of the best-selling issues set within the universe.

DC’s Elseworlds is a series of comics that take place outside of the DC Universe canon. This allows for some rather bizarre and interesting tales featuring well-known DC heroes. Many of the stories set within this imprint feature alternate histories for characters.

The very first issue, 1989’s Gotham by Gaslight, showed a Batman of the Victorian Age. It focused on the Dark Knight’s attempt to hunt down Jack the Ripper in Gotham City. More of these bizarre “what ifs” followed until around 2003, when the Elseworlds imprint began to fade off.

Back And Just As Bizarre

Now, New York Comic Con reveals that Elseworlds is back with six new titles. One of which, Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, serves as a sequel to that initial 1989 title. It comes from the team of Andy Diggle and Landro Fernandez, who introduced more Victorian-era DC heroes. This includes Superman and Wonder Woman. All led to a 19th-century Justice League.

Meanwhile, Jay Kristoff and Tirso Cons Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter is a sequel to Tom Taylor’s Dark Knights of Steel. This time around, the focus is on Deathstroke and takes inspiration from Norse mythology. The other titles confirmed for this relaunch include:

  • Batman the Barbarian from Greg Smallwood
  • Green Lantern: Dark from Tate Brombal and Werther Dell’Edera
  • Batman: Nightfire from Clay and Seth Mann
  • DC Vs. Vampires: World War V from Matthew Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt

No specific release was given, but all are expected to drop throughout 2024.
