Two of DC Comics’ most beloved heroines are getting a bit of a makeover. Both Catwoman and Supergirl will be receiving updated costumes in their next comics.
Alongside a new ongoing comic series, Selina Kyle will receive a new costume, courtesy of writer/artist Joëlle Jones.
“Selina’s sticking with the black, but gone are the goggles in favor of a cowl, along with some much sleeker, more stylish gloves and boots. The new costume also seems to have some reinforcement in the middle and some openings under her shoulders, which add a bit of flair while also giving her arms slightly more mobility—something that would be particularly important in Selina’s…ahem, line of work.”
Kara Danvers will be getting a redesign curiosity of Justice League artist Jorge Jimenez. Similar to Catwoman, Supergirl’s series will be getting rejuvenated.
In an interview with series writer Marc Andreyko told Syfywire, it was revealed that Kara will actually be getting a couple of different outfits for issue #21, one of which is necessary for space travel.
“Having a costume that can adapt to different environments and planets that might not have access to a yellow sun is important,” Andreyko said. “It’s part of her arsenal now, but it’s not a permanent costume change. It’s a ‘what suit is most effective for where she is and what she has to do’ costume. It’s a practical costume, and the details around it will be revealed in the first few issues.”
While Supergirl’s return will see a new creative team come on board, made up of Marc Andreyko and Kevin Maguire, the new run will reportedly tie into Brian Michael Bendis’ work on the Superman family of titles.
Catwoman #1 goes on sale on July 4th. Supergirl #21 hits August 8th.
