DC Pride is back for another year of celebrating the publisher’s LGBTQ+ characters and creators. The monthlong initiative began back in 2021 and since then has brought awareness to the LGBTQ+ community’s best and brightest creators, heroes, and villains. This year will be no different with DC bringing one of its biggest lineups to date. This includes a brand-new anthology, a tribute comic to a legendary writer, and pride-themed variants throughout the month of June.
DC Pride 2024
This year, DC is holding nothing back for its Pride celebrations. At the center of the celebration is DC Pride 2024 #1. This 104-page anthology puts a spotlight on DC’s LGBTQ+ characters. This year’s comic features a recently revealed cover from Kevin Wada along with a variant wraparound from David Talaski. You can also pick up foil and card stock variants from Babs Tarr. The issue itself features a variety of new stories focused on some of DC’s most beloved characters. It also includes an autobiographical story from Phil Jimenez about the worlds that helped shape him.
DC Pride 2024 #1 also features a story from Nicole Maines and Jordan Gibson. It follows Dreamer on a pilgrimage to her home planet, Naltor. Elsewhere, Gretchen Felker-Martin and Claire Roe take Poison Ivy and Janet from HR on a trip to Portworld for some spore-hunting. Then, Jarret Williams and D.J. Kirkland take Jon Kent’s Superman out for a night on the town. Meanwhile, Aquaman is on a trip to the Fourth World for their annual Love Festival in a story from Ngozi Ukazu. Other heroes in the anthology include Circuit Breaker, Blue Starman, Steel, and Traci 13.
Paying Tribute
DC Pride will also honor legendary transgender writer Rachel Pollack, who sadly passed away last April. The tribute will come in the form of DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack. This 96-page one-shot celebrates the writer and all she brought to DC. It reprints Doom Patrol #70 with the debut of DC’s first transgender superhero, Coagula. It also includes an original Coagula story from Joe Corallo and Rye Hickman as well as Vertigo Visions: The Geek.
DC Pride 2024 #1 is out on 05/28 with DC Pride: A Celebration of Rachel Pollack following on 06/08.
