As the mutant team of Dead X-Men continue their journey across Marvel’s multiverse, they uncover a reality ravaged by war. This time around, it is an intergalactic war that has decimated Earth and most of its inhabitants. Still, the team continues their search for Moira MacTaggert in the hopes of reversing the Fall of X. While they do find the eponymous mutant alive, she is less than willing to help the Dead X-Men. In fact, they find her wielding the severed head of fellow mutant Xorn, embedded into an axe-like weapon.

If you haven’t heard of Xorn, no one will blame you. The mutant is a rather obscure creation from Grant Morrison and Leinil Francis Yu’s 2001 New X-Men. He, alongside his twin brother Zorn, was able to manipulate an actual star to gain light and gravity powers. While the two brothers never reached the heights of popularity that other mutants have, it didn’t stop them from becoming fan-favorites. At least until their untimely demise in a plot from another anti-mutant organization.

With Jonathan Hickman’s reboot of the X-men came the resurrection protocols. This allowed dead mutants to return to life, granting a form of immortality to all X-Men. This new age saw the rebirth of Xorn and Zorn. Together, they spent much of their time helping Xavier’s son Legion take down the psychic villain Onslaught. Since Orchis’ attack on the Hellfire Gala this past summer, the two have not been heard from…until now. Now, Moira MacTaggert aims to use Xorn’s head to ensure she can use her mutant ability to restart her timeline. This would keep the Fall of X event in place and see the Dead X-Men failing their mission to stop it.

The Dead X-Men series follows a group of mutants that have already lost their lives in the war against Orchis. As Fall of X took out much of mutant kind, these five mutants are getting a second chance to make things right. The team of Frenzy, Prodigy, Jubilee, Dazzler, and Cannonball are on a new mission to ensure Xavier’s dream survives. This means traveling through different realities and attempting to prevent the war that will end the Age of Krakoa.
