The Age of Krakoa is on the brink of extinction, but the X-Men will take one last stand in the new Dead X-Men limited series. This four-issue series comes from Steve Foxe and a slew of amazing artists. They include Vincenzo Carratu, Bernard Chang, and Jonas Scharf. Together, this creative team will explore a group of fallen X-Men as they travel through history to reverse Krakoa’s fate. Five mutants who lost their lives in the initial fight for Krakoa return for a second chance to put an end to Orchis’ genocidal plans.

The Dead X-Men

This January, @steve_foxe teams up with an all-star lineup of artists in 'Dead X-Men', a new limited series tied to the end of the X-Men’s Krakoan era. Check out Pere Pérez’s haunting cover for 'Dead X-Men' #1 and read more now: https://t.co/vMZoKadZtm pic.twitter.com/msQW06CH4N

Unfortunately, the identity of these Dead X-Men is being kept under wraps for now. However, Pere Perez’ cover for the first issue offers a few clues as to which mutants are returning from the grave. Although, it is of note that only four X-Men are showcased on the cover.

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the first Dead X-Men issue reveals:

“Death was only the beginning! When the world turned against Krakoa, these five mutants lost their lives…but their mission as X-Men is just getting started. To preserve Xavier’s dream, they must accomplish the impossible – or die again trying!”

Speaking about the new series, writer Steve Foxe admits that Dead X-Men is one of the most complex stories he has ever worked on for Marvel. However, it is also one of the purest as it takes on the trope of a small group of people attempting the impossible. Plus, he has been hard at work with other X-writers like Kieron Gillen and Jordan White to ensure this mission has real stakes. Which is both exciting and scary.

The End Of Krakoa

Whether this team of Dead X-Men is successful or not, we already know this is the end of the Krakoan Age. During NYCC, Marvel revealed that three limited series are setting up the end of the Age of Krakoa for next year. However, something new will rise from the ashes of this current war. Could these Dead X-Men help usher in this new age, or will they only help put the nail in Krakoa’s coffin?

Dead X-Men #1 hits shelves on 1/31.
