Sometimes, dreams do come true, the sequel to the truly underappreciated classic by Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, Deadly Premonition, with a port of the original game coming to the Nintendo Switch. The original game found niche success with its heavy Twin Peaks influences, even with the janky controls and less than stellar shooting, the campy acting, interesting storyline, and outlandish characters managed to turn this game into an instant classic among certain audiences. The game met with widely different scores with some review sites giving it lower scores while others gave it that perfect 10 score.
Mixed reception aside, the game was able to find its own rabid audience who were able to give the game its own life, even funding a Deadly Premonition board game in just 8 hours! The sequel, entitled A Blessing in Disguise, will take place in Boston where we return to FBI Agent Francis York Morgan, where he will have to deal with the same case he thought he closed back in 2005. You’ll take control of Morgan once again as he solves various murders and the game itself will jump between 2005 and 2019 in true Deadly Premonition fashion.
Swery himself had this to say about the subject;
Roughly 10 years have passed since the original was released in 2010. Now, a miracle has happened, and I have a chance to reunite with my best friend – something I never thought would be possible.
I’m working hard day and night while also looking back on the past to make sure this becomes something that doesn’t change no matter how much time passes, while also adapting to and interlocking with the current era – a game that encompasses all. Please get yourself a cup of coffee and wait for it to be completed!
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise, is being published by Rising Star games and is looking like it and the port of the original are coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.
