Earlier this week, Fox announced a whole line up of films releasing in 2018. Everyone’s favorite mouthy mercenary, Deadpool, is getting a sequel that is set to release on June 1st, 2018. The first teaser trailer for the film (featuring a very special guest) was released a few weeks ago.

As if anyone else could play the foul-mouthed superhero, Ryan Reynolds will be returning to star and produce Deadpool 2. News of the Deadpool films have been trickling out of the media for weeks now after the short in front of Logan was released, and it was also announced that Josh Brolin, who also plays Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, will be joining the cast as Cable. The original writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, are also returning. However, the film is getting a new director David Leitch to replace Tim Miller.

Along with the Deadpool news, Fox announced the release dates for a few more films releasing in 2018. James Cameron’s Avatar franchise will be getting four more sequels, the first of which will release in December 2020. In other superhero news, a few new Marvel films will be hitting the big screen. New Mutants, a story focusing on a group of new, young mutants in training, is set to release on April 13th, 2018. The newest X-Men film, Dark Phoenix, also received a release date of November 2nd, 2018.

When Deadpool released on Valentine’s Day in 2016, it broke the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film. Overall, the first film made $783.1 million while at the box office, making well over their budget of $58 million. The Deadpool hype train is running full force at the moment, let’s hope that Deadpool 2 can live up to the expectations. What are you hoping for in the next Deadpool flick?
