Many people feel comfortable saying things to someone when they are not addressing them face to face. But one man discovered his actions had consequences when a Florida sheriff decided to take action and teach him a lesson about making death threats.

In a video shared on TikTok by news station NBCSouthFlorida, we see Volusia County’s Sheriff Chitwood address a man named Matthew as he comes down the escalator in what appears to be an airport. “I’m the guy you want to kill, and there’s nothing I can do about it,” Chitwood says. “Challenge accepted.”

The man tells him he sent him a “sermon,” to which Chitwood responds, “But you do know in Florida, a written threat to kill someone is a felony. Just so you know, I’m the one that made sure you came back. And I hope you enjoy your stay at the branch jail.”

The individual who threatened the Sheriff’s life is heading to jail, and he will have to pay for it, making this a costly lesson for him. “I will also tell you that you will not see Mickey Mouse on this trip,” Sheriff Chitwood says. The Sheriff then informs the individual named Matthew that he will need to pay them back for his flight to stay in the county jail. The end of the video shows the police putting the man into a police car. Chitwood can be heard informing Matthew they will “make sure your cell has rubber in it.”

The caption on the video reads: “In a moment caught on video, the Volusia County sheriff confronted a man who allegedly sent him death threats from across the country once he was brought to Florida to face justice.”

It’s wrong to make threats and harass anyone, including, or perhaps especially, law enforcement. However, the reactions to the post have been mixed, and some have actually shown sympathy for the man. Comments include that Chitwood is a “typical cop” and that the individual he is berating appears to be “mentally challenged.”

“So the cop had his fee fees hurt, so he invites a camera crew to go record him bullying someone. Typical cop behavior,” another person wrote.

Others have found the video more amusing than a great example of justice being served. In the comments, they highlighted some of the lines that the sheriff said, making them chuckle. “We’ll make sure your cell has rubber in it……. Diabolical,” a commenter states. Others have brought up the line about being unable to see Mickey Mouse during the trip. This is a reference to Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

There have also been comments from people who apparently know Sheriff Chitwood. “Ppl in the comments dont know sheriff chitwood!!that boy NEVERRR plays around! gotta love him,” a person shared.

Was justice served?
